"Last night, I had a dream about a turtle.
In my dream, I sat on a beach, watching the waves. The sun was setting, painting the sky in orange and pink.
Something moved in the sand next to me. A huge sea turtle. His shell was dark green and covered with scars. His eyes were old and gentle.
"Why do you look so worried?" he asked. His voice was slow and deep, like the ocean itself.
"I have so much to do," I said. "Deadlines. Bills. Problems. I'm always in a hurry. I'm always late."
The turtle nodded slowly. Very slowly.
"Come," he said. "Walk with me."
We walked along the beach. His steps were slow. One foot, then another. Sand and silence.
"Faster!" I said. "We will never get anywhere like this!"
"We are already somewhere," he said. "Look."
I looked around. The waves. The birds. The colors in the sky. It was beautiful. But I had missed it all because I was rushing.
"You humans run all your lives," the turtle said. "But where are you running to? The end of the beach? The end of the day? The end of life?"
I stopped walking. His words sank in like water into sand.
"I am one hundred and fifty years old," he said. "I have seen storms destroy beaches. I have seen islands born. I move slowly, but I see everything."
He touched my foot with his old flipper. "Slow down. The ocean is not going anywhere. The sun will set whether you watch it or not. But if you watch, you will remember."
We sat together in the sand. The turtle closed his eyes. The waves sang their soft song. I felt my shoulders drop. My breathing slowed.
For the first time in months, I was not in a hurry.
Then I woke up.
My alarm was ringing. I was late for work again.
But I took one minute. Just one. I stood by my window and watched the morning sky.
The turtle was right. The sun doesn't hurry. Why should I?"
