"Last night, I had a dream about my childhood home. In my dream, I was ten years old again. I ran down our old street in bare feet. The sun was hot on my skin. My dog Buster ran next to me, his tail wagging like crazy. There it was. Our yellow house with the broken fence and the big tree in the yard. I pushed the gate open. It screamed like always. Mom's flowers grew everywhere. Red, yellow, purple. Bees danced from one flower to another. "Mom! I'm home!" I shouted. The smell of fresh bread came from the kitchen window. Mom's voice called back, "Wash your hands first!" But I did not wash my hands. I climbed the big tree instead. Up, up, up, to my favorite branch. From there, I could see the whole street. Mr. Chen watering his garden. Kids riding bikes. Everything looked small and safe. "Dinner!" Mom called. I jumped down and ran inside. The kitchen was warm. Rice, soup, and my favorite fried chicken sat on the table. Dad read his newspaper. My little sister stole a piece of chicken when Mom was not looking. We all sat together and ate. Everyone talked at the same time. Dad told a joke. Milk came out of my sister's nose. We laughed so hard my stomach hurt. After dinner, I lay on the cool floor. The fan spun slowly on the ceiling. Buster slept next to me, his head on my foot. Nothing could hurt me here. Not tomorrow. Not anything. This was home. Then I woke up. I was a grown man in a small city apartment. The dream was over. But I lay there smiling. For one night, I was ten years old again. And home was still waiting for me."
