The dove That chose My hand

"There was a dove just sitting on the porch railing, somewhere that wasn't quite my porch, and it didn't fly off when I got close, which felt right somehow, not surprising at all. held my hand out without really thinking about it and it hopped right onto my fingers, so light, barely felt like weight at all. I didn't move for a while, just stood there with it, this calm settling over everything, the noise of wherever I was fading out. It tilted its head at me a couple times like it was studying me back. sky went soft behind it, that hazy dream light. It took off eventually, no warning, just lifted and circled once before disappearing past some rooftops I didn't recognize. I stood there watching the empty space it left. woke up still feeling that same quiet, lingering a bit before the day crowded back in."
