Golden retriever in misty Dog park Brings Inner Calm

"I was walking along a gravel path in a dog park that felt way too big, like it stretched out for miles into a misty pine forest. I was holding a heavy, yellow nylon dog leash, but I couldn't remember what dog I was supposed to be walking or what it looked like. A big, shaggy golden retriever came trotting out of the bushes and just sat down right next to my knee. It didn't have a collar on, but it leaned its whole weight against my shin like we'd known each other for years. I sat down on a damp wooden bench and started scratching it behind the ears. The fur was thick and smelled like pine needles and clean dirt, and this really quiet, solid feeling of calm settled over everything. We just sat there for a long time watching the fog drift between the trees, not really waiting for anything. Then I was suddenly sitting at a desk in a high school computer lab, and the dog was sleeping under the metal table with its chin resting flat on my left shoe. I kept nudging its side with my toe every few minutes just to feel the steady rise and fall of its breathing while I clicked through empty desktop folders.
