"So there's a ghost. In my living room. Just sitting in the armchair, kind of shimmering, not really all there, and I'm standing in the doorway holding a bag of chips going "do you want some" and it doesn't answer. It just sort of flickers. Like bad reception.
I don't know why I wasn't scared. I just wasn't. I walked past it to the kitchen and got a glass of water and came back and it was still there. Same chair. Same shimmer. And I sat down on the couch across from it and we just. Watched TV. I put on the news. It didn't seem to have an opinion.
I tried to talk to it a few times. Asked where it came from. Asked if it knew it was dead. Asked if it wanted me to turn the lights down or something. Nothing. Just this faint hum, like a fridge, and this cold spot that kept drifting around the room. At one point it was next to me on the couch and I offered it the chips again and my hand went right through it. Cold. Cold like reaching into a freezer. I pulled my hand back and said "okay, no chips then."
My friend came over. Knocked on the door. And I let him in and he sat right through the ghost, right through it, on the armchair, and I'm like "you're sitting on the ghost" and he goes "on the what" and I go "nothing" and we started talking about his breakup. The whole time the ghost is just hovering there behind him, half in the wall, and I'm nodding at my friend and watching it out of the corner of my eye.
It left at some point. No goodbye. Just wasn't there anymore. And I felt this weird pang, like I'd missed a chance at something. I woke up and checked the armchair. Empty. Cold spot gone. Drank my coffee standing up. I still leave the bag of chips on the coffee table sometimes. Just in case. Not sure why."
