"i was standing on some kind of ledge, not sure how i got up there, maybe a building or maybe just a really tall rock, the dream didn't bother explaining it and i didn't ask myself either. i was looking out at something, i can't remember what, just this vague view i was taking in, and then i wasn't standing anymore, no trip, no push, i was just falling. that first second was almost calm actually, weightless, air rushing past my ears, and i remember thinking distinctly this is really happening in this detached kind of way before the fear even caught up to me. then it hit all at once, that drop in your stomach, and i started grabbing at nothing, arms out like there'd be something to catch onto if i just reached hard enough. i could see the ground but it wasn't getting closer the way it should, time doing that stretchy thing dreams do, everything slow and fast at once. i tried to yell and nothing came out again, that same broken voice thing that happens in these dreams, just air pushing out with no sound attached to it. i remember passing windows on the way down, like i was falling past a building, glimpses of rooms with people in them who didn't even look up, going about completely normal lives while i was plummeting right past their view. right as the ground got close enough that i could actually make out details, cracks in the pavement, that jolt hit and i woke up, whole body flinching like i'd actually landed, legs kicking under the blanket. took a second lying there to catch my breath, that leftover falling feeling still sitting in my stomach even after i knew i was awake."
