Flight over the turquoise Sea

"i was standing on the edge of a wooden dock holding a giant, cold mug of coffee, trying to figure out how to get to my aunt's house without taking the highway. then for no real reason, i just leaned forward and kicked off the planks, and instead of falling into the water, i started gliding forward through the air about five feet above the surface. the water beneath me was this crystal-clear turquoise color, so still and smooth it looked like blue glass, and i could see long sea weeds waving around on the ocean floor below. i didn't even have wings or anything--i was just leaning my shoulders to turn, rising up a few yards whenever i took a deep breath and dipping low enough to trail the tips of my fingers through the cool water. the air blowing across my face felt so crisp and fresh, and this huge, bursting feeling of freedom welled up in my chest, making me laugh out loud. then all of a sudden i was standing on a crowded subway platform holding a wet paper napkin, but i could still feel that weightless, rushing wind in my hair and the cool spray of the sea on my skin, grinning like an idiot because i knew i could just leap off the platform and fly whenever i wanted to."
