"I was standing in the shower, warm water running over me, and I ran my fingers through my hair. Big chunks of it slid out in my hand, perfectly straight and smooth. I kept running my fingers through, and more kept coming, clump after clump. I stepped out and looked in the mirror. My hair had become much thinner, and my scalp showed through in places. I stared at my reflection, unable to look away. When I woke up, I reached up and touched my hair right away. It was all still there, thick as ever. My heart was beating fast, and it took a moment for the uneasy, sinking feeling to fade."
