"I was sitting in the backseat of a car, and my brother-in-law was driving. The road ahead began to flood, the water rising fast, and then a huge wave, like something out of the ocean, rose over us and was about to crash down. "We're going to die now," I said, calm and almost matter-of-fact. Then the wave hit, and I was dead. I knew it right away. There was no pain, no struggle, no feeling of drowning. It was instant and quiet, as if I had simply slipped into another realm. Yet I was still there, only now I could see from above the car, looking down at the place where I had died. It felt like the dream was showing me what death was like, so that I would never need to fear it. When I woke up, the feeling hadn't changed. I lay there in stillness, amazed, unable to believe I had just experienced death. I felt calm and strangely lighter, as if something heavy had been lifted."
