Grandmother's apples and the empty Train platform

"I was sitting in my old kitchen trying to find a misplaced house key so I could mail it back, but my grandmother was sitting across from me at the table chopping up apples like she used to. I kept staring at her because in the back of my mind I knew she'd been gone for three years, but she was right there laughing and handing me a slice like nothing had ever happened. I had this overwhelming, heavy ache in my throat, wanting so badly to ask her where she'd been or tell her how much I missed her, but every time I tried to open my mouth, my voice just came out as a tiny whisper she couldn't hear. then she reached over and patted my knee, and for a second everything felt warm and safe again. but suddenly I was standing alone on an empty train platform in the fog holding a cold cup of coffee, and that hollow, crashing realization hit me all over again that she was really gone, leaving this huge physical ache in my chest that wouldn't go away."
