"I was sitting on the stairs of my old middle school, which was weirdly carpeted, eating a slice of cake with my hands. Strawberry maybe, but it tasted like those honey candies my aunt used to keep in her purse. Nobody told me off. That felt like the big deal, that I was allowed. Then there was a long table, way too long, covered in sweets. Mochi, little jelly cubes, a pink thing I couldn't name. I kept grabbing more even though I wasn't hungry, just happy, like I was making up for something. A girl I went to school with, don't remember her name, was handing me spoons and saying we had to finish everything before the bell. Next thing I knew it was raining sugar? Tiny white grains on my sleeves and I was laughing so hard my stomach hurt. I tried to save some in my pockets for later. Woke up smiling, tongue feeling sticky, a bit disappointed there was nothing in my pockets."
