"My ex best friend was in my kitchen, looking through the cupboards for her usual mug. I knew we weren't friends anymore, but I didn't want to mention it and ruin whatever this was. We were laughing about something on her phone. I can't remember what, just that I leaned over without feeling awkward, like I used to. Then we were waiting for a bus outside my old school, and I suddenly remembered how angry I'd been with her. I tried to bring it up, but she asked if I still had her sweater. I said yes, even though I don't think there ever was a sweater. When the bus came, she got on while I was checking my pockets for fare. I could see an empty seat beside her. She put her bag on it, and I couldn't tell if she was saving it for me or not."

Jungian Analysis
Core Theme

"This dream reflects the tender ache of a friendship that lingers in familiar rituals even after it has ended. The kitchen, the shared laugh, and the bus seat all point to a longing for reconnection, while the forgotten anger and the ambiguous bag suggest a fear of being left behind or of misreading the other's intentions."

Hidden Emotions and Symbols

✦ Kitchen Cupboards

Represents the intimate, domestic familiarity of a past friendship and the search for a usual place within it.

✦ Her Phone

Reflects the easy, shared joy that once existed and the way laughter can momentarily erase awareness of separation.

✦ Old School

Indicates a return to a formative time or place where the roots of the friendship and the anger were first planted.

✦ Sweater

✦ Bus Seat With Bag

Wisdom

The dream does not ask you to resolve the past but to notice how you carry it. The empty seat is not a verdict; it is a question. Sometimes the kindest thing is to let the bus go and trust that your own fare is enough.
