"I was outside my childhood home, standing in the patch of grass where we used to leave the sprinkler. The yard was much bigger, but I still knew exactly where to step so I wouldn't get mud on my shoes. I could hear someone washing dishes through the kitchen window. I thought it was my mom and almost called out, then remembered I didn't live there anymore. For some reason I started picking up sticks instead, like I needed to finish before I could go inside. My old swing was there, hanging so low it touched the ground. I sat beside it and found a little plastic shovel in the grass. I was weirdly relieved nobody had thrown it away. Then the porch light came on, even though it was still afternoon. I stood up expecting someone to call me in for dinner, and just waited."

Jungian Analysis
Core Theme

"This dream reflects a tender confrontation with the passage of time and the lingering pull of childhood belonging. Standing in the familiar yard, you are caught between the urge to return and the quiet knowledge that you no longer live there, and the unexpected porch light becomes a signal that the past still calls—but you can only wait, not re-enter."

Wisdom

The past can light up suddenly and leave you standing in the yard, but you do not have to pick up every stick before you are allowed to feel at home in your own life. Let the sadness be there without letting it keep you outside—you can remember the swing without needing to sit in it again.
