"I was watering the plants and the hose moved wrong. Too smooth. I looked down and it was a green snake, thick as my wrist, and I was holding it near the head. I didn't drop it. That's what I keep thinking about. I just... kept holding it. It didn't bite. It looked at me with one eye, slow blink, like it was bored. I remember finishing the watering. Which makes no sense. But in the dream I walked around the garden with a snake instead of a hose and the plants got watered fine. Then my neighbor leaned over the fence to talk about his fence and I hid the snake behind my back like it was a cigarette. He went on about the property line for a while. I nodded. When he left I looked and it was gone. Just the hose again, coiled in the grass. I picked it up and it was cold and rubber and normal and I felt weirdly disappointed, like I'd been ditched. Woke up and checked the backyard. Hose where I left it. Coiled. Stared at it longer than necessary. Went inside."
