"So I pull back the covers and there's a snake. Coiled up. Right in the middle of the bed. Thick one, greenish, just sitting there in the warm spot like it had been there all night. And I didn't scream. I didn't jump back. I just stood there looking at it and then I pulled the covers back up. Over the snake. Tucked it in. Nice and neat. Like putting a kid to bed. I went to the kitchen and made breakfast. Eggs. Toast. And I'm standing there eating and I remember thinking "there's a snake in my bed" but it was the same tone as "I need to do laundry." Just a fact. Just a thing on the list. I finished my eggs and went back to the bedroom and the snake was still there, or maybe it wasn't, the covers were flat, and I couldn't tell if I was relieved or disappointed. Then I'm at a pet store. No memory of driving there. Just there. And I'm looking at these tanks full of snakes and the guy working there is telling me about feeding schedules and I'm nodding along like I'm actually going to buy one. He handed me a little mouse, frozen, in a baggie, and I'm holding it and looking at this snake in the tank and the snake is looking back at me and I said "no, I already have one" and put the mouse down and left. I walked home. Which took forever. And every yard I passed had a snake in it. On the sidewalk. In the grass. Coiled around a mailbox. Just sitting there. Not moving. Not chasing me. And I walked past all of them and none of them bothered me and I kept walking and I remember my feet hurting and thinking "I just want to get home." I woke up and checked the bed. Both hands, patting the whole mattress. Nothing. Just sheets. I sat on the edge of the bed for a while and I couldn't figure out if I'd been scared or not. I still don't know. I made eggs. Ate them standing up. Kept looking at the bed out of the corner of my eye."

Jungian Analysis
Core Theme

"Your dream reveals a profound encounter with the instinctual self, symbolized by the snake, which has taken up residence in the most intimate space of your life. Rather than reacting with fear, you calmly tuck it in and proceed with daily routines, suggesting that a powerful inner force is being normalized, repressed, or integrated into your conscious identity. The journey through a world filled with snakes, and your eventual return home, points to an individuation process: you are learning to coexist with your instincts without being ruled by them, even as you remain uncertain whether you feel relief or disappointment."
