"I was in my bedroom, or a room that felt like my bedroom, and I heard this sound in the wall. A dry sliding sound, like sandpaper dragging. I pressed my ear against the wall and there it was again, and something in me just knew. Snakes. In the wall. Not one. A lot. I don't know why I didn't leave the room. Instead I started pressing my ear to different spots, moving around the room like a weird inspector, and the sound was everywhere, above me, behind me, under the floor. It never got louder. That was the worst part. Just this constant soft shuffling, patient, everywhere at once. Then my sister was there (I don't have a sister) telling me it was probably just the pipes, and I kept saying "pipes don't sound like that" and she kept shrugging at me. She opened a vent in the wall, one of those old metal grates, and I screamed at her to close it, and she looked at me like I was being dramatic. Then a head came out of the vent. Small, dark. Just peeking. Testing the air. She closed it so casually, like shooing a fly. After that I couldn't sit still. I was moving furniture away from walls, lifting the edge of the rug, checking under the bed with my phone flashlight, and the whole time the shuffling sound kept going, sometimes close, sometimes far, always there. I found a shed skin under the dresser, translucent and long, way too long for the size of the room, and I remember holding it and thinking "this is evidence" like I was building a case against my own house. The dream jumped and I was standing on my bed, fully clothed, holding a broom I don't own, staring at the gap under the bedroom door where a shadow was moving back and forth. Blocking the gap with a towel, moving it with this slow horrible patience. I remember deciding, very calmly, that I would just live on the bed now. That was my plan. Permanent bed living. Woke up with my feet pulled all the way up under the blanket, which is something I haven't done since I was a kid. Checked the walls of my actual room like an idiot. Just pipes, probably."

Jungian Analysis
Core Theme

"The dream displaces you inside a bedroom, a symbol of the psyche's intimate sanctuary, where snakes move through the walls as repressed instinctual and Shadow material. Your attempts to inspect, rationalize, and barricade the room reveal a nervous ego trying to contain something pervasive, patient, and transformative. The absent sister and the impossible skin point toward undeveloped inner figures and the need for individuation: to meet the hidden contents rather than live permanently on the bed of fear."

Hidden Emotions and Symbols

✦ Bedroom And Walls

Represent the psyche's sanctuary and ego boundaries containing hidden material.

✦ Snakes And Sliding Sound

Symbolize instinctual Shadow energy and a persistent complex beneath conscious awareness.

✦ Sister Who Is Not Real

Reflects an undeveloped anima voice that dismisses your intuitive knowing.

✦ Vent And Peeking Head

Symbolize a repressed opening where Shadow tests consciousness and demands acknowledgment.

✦ Shed Skin And Bed Defenses

Indicate transformation evidence and regressive paralysis before overwhelming instinctual contents.

Wisdom

Begin by honoring the dream's fear as a signal that something in your inner house needs attention, not extermination. Rather than living permanently on the bed of safety, invite the snake's wisdom through journaling, therapy, or slow somatic awareness, allowing instinct and intuition to become conscious. Individuation asks you to open the vent with courage, examine the shed skin as evidence of growth, and integrate what has been sliding patiently behind your walls.
