"I'm at Thanksgiving with family, turkey. The whole thing. And I'm mid-sentence telling a story and my dentures just. Slid out. Into my hand. Whole set. Top row. And I'm holding them and looking at them and everyone at the table is looking at me. And I just. Put them back in. Shoved them back up. Kept talking. Same sentence. Didn't miss a beat. My aunt said "what was that" and I said "nothing" and passed the mashed potatoes. And everybody went back to eating. And I kept telling my story. And it happened again. Twice more. Just. Sliding out. And I kept putting them back. Like adjusting glasses. Just a thing you do. My mom asked if I was okay and I said yeah. And I took a bite of turkey and it was fine. Chewed fine. Everything fine. And I remember thinking "I don't even wear dentures." But it didn't matter. There they were. And it was fine. And the turkey was good. I woke up and ran my tongue over my teeth. All mine. All real. Solid. I got up and brushed them anyway. Twice. And all day I kept checking. Pushing on them with my tongue. Just to be sure. They're fine. Still fine."
