The ring That melted Into My skin

"I was digging through a box of old tangled cords in my attic trying to find my lost passport, but at the bottom I pulled out this heavy wooden velvet box filled with shiny silver rings and gold necklaces. one of the rings had this huge, deep blue stone that kept changing shapes whenever I blinked—first it was a circle, then a sharp triangle, then it looked like a drop of liquid mercury. I slipped it onto my middle finger because I felt this weirdly strong belief that it used to belong to an uncle I've never actually met. but as soon as it was on, the metal turned soft like warm candle wax and started melting over my knuckles, fusing to my skin. I wasn't even in pain, just super bewildered trying to peel the sticky gold off my fingers before it reached my wrist. then all of a sudden I was standing in a sunny backyard trying to water a garden hose with a plastic cup, staring at my bare hands trying to figure out where all that heavy gold went."
