The test That wouldn't stop Changing

"I'm in the bathroom. Test in my hand. And I look down and it's positive. Two lines. Clear. And I blink and it's negative. One line. And I blink again and it's positive. And I'm just standing there watching this little stick flip back and forth and I'm not freaking out. I'm just. Watching. Like it's a screensaver. I shook it. Like that would help. And it went blank. Just white. No lines at all. And I held it up to the light and turned it and nothing. And I thought "okay, so that's not helpful." My partner knocked on the door and asked if I was okay and I said "yeah" and put the test in my pocket. And then there were more tests. In my pocket. A whole handful. I don't know where they came from. And I pulled them out one by one and they all said different things. Positive. Negative. Blank. One had a smiley face? I don't know. I woke up and just lay there. Didn't get up. Didn't check anything. Just stared at the ceiling doing the math. I'm not pregnant. I know I'm not pregnant. But I still felt like I needed to check. Eventually got up and made coffee instead. Didn't buy a test. Didn't need to. But the feeling stuck around all day."
