The crow That would Not look Away

"There was a crow sitting on a fence in my backyard, except the fence was taller than ours actually is, and it wouldn't stop staring at me, head tilting every few seconds like it was studying something. didn't fly off when I moved closer, just kept watching. I tried to shoo it and it hopped a little further down the fence, still facing me, still that same tilt. felt like it wanted something from me but I couldn't figure out what, this nagging sense I was missing an obvious answer. It made a sound at one point, not quite a normal caw, almost like it was trying to say something, and I leaned in like I could understand it if I just focused hard enough. never worked out what it meant. It followed me a little when I walked back inside, landing on the windowsill, still watching through the glass. I woke up still turning it over, that same puzzled feeling not quite gone yet."
